Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I bought my bike somewhere else. Do I have to take it back to the dealer I bought it from for warranty work?

A: No. We can perform all Harley-Davidson factory warranty work, as well as repair work for Harley-Davidson Extended Service Plans. We also are happy to perform any maintenance work on your bike, regardless of where it was purchased.

Q: I don't know how to ride. Can you teach me how?

A: We do not currently offer in house rider's training. However, we can refer you to several places that offer training. Click here for a listing of Wisconsin and Minnesota classes.

Q: I want to drop off my bike for service. Can you loan me a bike to ride while it is serviced?

A: We do have rentals available at really great rates and even better rates if your bike is in service during the rental period. Email rentals@stcroixhd.com or call and ask to speak to the rental dept. for more details.

Q: I hear that Harleys leak oil and are unreliable. Is this true?

A: Absolutely not. While there was a day many many years ago that this had some truth, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle is as reliable or more reliable than any motorcycle currently produced.

Q: I want my bike to be loud. Can you cut the baffles out of my exhaust for me?

A: No we will not cut baffles out of the exhaust of motorcycles. St. Croix Harley-Davidson encourages people to use responsible sound levels when operating their motorcycle(s). Every city has their own ordinances on noise levels; Some will even issue tickets. Check with your local city offices for further details.

Q: Which spark plugs do I need?

A: Most models fall into one of the following categories: 1975 - 2000 Shovelhead and Evolution. 1340 equipped models use 5R6A type plugs; 1986 - later Sportsters and 1999 - later Twin Cam equipped models use 6R12 type plugs. V-Rods use type 10R12A plugs. For any other years, models or engine configurations please contact our parts department or consult your service manual.

Q: How much engine oil does my bike take?

A: Contemporary Harley-Davidson oil capacities vary by year and model. The only simple answer is to get 4 quarts (5 quarts for V-Rod) and verify the exact amount in your service manual.

Q: Which oil filter do I need?

A: 1999 - later Twin Cam equipped models use the SUPER PREMIUM 5 oil filters (part# 63798-99a for chrome, 63731-99a for black). V-Rods use the SUPERPREMIUM oil filter (part# 63793-01K black only). Evolution 1340 equipped models use Genuine Harley-Davidson oil filters (part# 637966-77a for chrome, 6380580a for black). 1991 - 1998 Dyna models can use the same filters as other Evolution 1340 models or the longer versions (part# 63813-90 for chrome, 63812-90 for black). For all other years and models please ask us or consult your service manual.

Q: What battery charger do you recommend?

A: For off-season storage and any other charging use on your Harley-Davidson bike we recommend ONLY the Harley-Davidson SuperSmart Battery Tender. This is the ONLY Harley-Davidson approved charger that will keep your battery charged and protect your battery warranty. Trickle and standard chargers could be used for very limited periods, but they will over-charge and ruin your battery if used for prolonged periods. If you do choose to use a trickle charger, don't worry. We sell new batteries too.

Q: Is a Harley-Davidson official service manual worth having?

A: A Harley-Davidson official service manual is an excellent investment for anyone who wants to change fluids, install accessories or just wants to know their bike better. These manuals are available for all current models and most older models as well. They retail for $60 and are far more comprehensive than any after market manual.

Q: How do I check my Gearbuck$ rebate balance?

A: There are a few ways to check your Gearbuck$ balance. You can call us at 715-246-2959, email us at info@stcroixhd.com, or stop in our store and anyone can check your balance for you.

A: We are currently operating under our winter hours which are: Tuesdays - Saturdays 9am-5pm; Sundays and Mondays we are closed.

Q: Is the entire shop (all departments) open the same hours, Even service?

A: Yes and yes.

Q: Can I leave my bike outside if I can't make it during normal business hours for service?
